School-Based Health Care

PrimaryPlus School-Based Health Helps Kids Stay Healthy and Happy

At PrimaryPlus, we are committed to ensuring the health and well-being of students, staff, and the entire community through our innovative school-based health centers. These centers increase accessibility by offering in-person visits for family health services twice a week, dental services four days a week, and soon, counseling services with Gary Zornes, LCSW. With the added convenience of telemedicine visits, which parents are welcome to participate in, we ensure that school health needs are always met.

Comprehensive Medical Services for School-Based Health

Our school-based health services are designed to be an added resource for parents, providing convenient, quality healthcare evaluations upon parental consent for minor sicknesses such as earaches, throat infections, eye infections, skin irritations, colds, and runny noses. Cory Ramsey, PA-C, a Bracken County Alumni, joined the PrimaryPlus medical family this year and offers care in the school-based center on Mondays and Thursdays (in-person). He is also available for care at PrimaryPlus-Bracken County. Our Brooksville School-Based Health office is open to students and the entire community—everyone is welcome to utilize this center.

Dental Services Collaboration in School-Based Health

The dental portion of our school-based health centers is a collaboration between PrimaryPlus-Dental Center and the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. This partnership ensures that all dental staffing needs are met, featuring the care of Dr. Anna Joines, DMD, and hygienist Jacqueline Stitt, RDH. The University of Kentucky College of Dentistry has a strong foundation in school-based dentistry programs throughout the state. Our dental center operates four days a week and is open to the entire community, providing services such as dental exams, cleanings, x-rays, and some restorative procedures.

Creating Access to Quality School-Based Health Care

This partnership is geared towards ensuring happy, healthy kids and creating access to quality care for families in the region. You can find a list of frequently asked questions regarding school-based health and the PrimaryPlus Notice of Privacy and HIPAA Practices on the school website or at https://www.primaryplus.net.

How Our School-Based Health Centers Work

We are entering our fourth year of offering school-based health services at PrimaryPlus. Our team will continue to work with school systems to grow and extend services to families throughout the region. Currently, PrimaryPlus offers school-based health services to Bracken County and Augusta Independent schools in Kentucky and to Ripley Union Lewis Huntington schools in Ohio. After completing the school-based health registration forms, your child can be seen by our Family Health Nurse Practitioner during school hours for minor illnesses such as earaches, throat infections, eye infections, skin irritations, colds, and runny noses. Parents can choose to be present either in person or via telehealth, and they can also call to schedule appointments for themselves or their child when needed.

How the School-Based Dental Center Works

PrimaryPlus dental services are offered at our Ripley School-Based Health and Bracken County School-Based Health locations. Services include basic dental exams, cleanings, x-rays, and some restorative procedures. We aim to ensure happy, healthy, beautiful smiles for the children in our community. Note: If your child has a dental home that includes preventative care every six months, you do not need to utilize the school-based dental program.
